Baked Lasagna

Baked Lasagna

“Lasagna!!” is usually the answer if mom asks “What should we make for dinner?” She showed us how to make this years ago when we were big enough to help layer in the noodles. I never get tired of a home-baked lasagna. I think this is one of the only foods I can eat leftover for lunch, dinner, lunch, and dinner again. Two or three days in a row – and it just keeps getting better.

Baked Lasagna
Serves: 6-8                                        Preheat Oven Temp: 375 °

Ingredients List
Hearty Pasta Sauce
2 lb. ground beef, or combination of ground beef and italian sausage
1 box lasagna noodles (about 12 noodles)
3/4 lb. american cheese, sliced
3/4 lb. mozzarella cheese, sliced
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Step-by-Step

1 Prepare the Hearty Pasta Sauce recipe in a large saucepan.
2 Fry the ground beef/pork over medium heat until well browned. Stir the meat into the sauce and simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally.
3 Boil the lasagna noodles in a large pot of water according to the package directions. Drain and rinse in cold water. Set aside.
4 Use a 13 x 9 baking dish to build the lasagna. Spread 1-2 cups of the meat sauce in the bottom of the dish.
5 Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the meat sauce.
6 Top with a layer of american cheese slices.
7 Spoon meat sauce over the cheese.
8 Arrange another layer of noodles, then a layer of mozzarella.
9 Continue layering, sauce – noodles – american cheese – sauce – noodles.
10 Top it all off with any remaining meat sauce and a nice layer of mozzarella.
11 Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top and cover loosely with foil.
12 Bake for 30 minutes, remove the foil, and bake for an additional 25 minutes until bubbly and browned on top.
13 Cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
